As lockdown measures continue to be lifted in a slow and steady manner it’s important to ensure the safety of the workplace. It’s now time to not only meet the necessary government guidelines but to exceed them. You can help combat the battle of COVID-19 by ensuring a safe environment for people to work.
Carry out a Risk Assessment
Employers are required to keep staff members safe and to minimise risks in the workplace. COVID-19 requires an additional risk assessment before anyone returns to the office. Consider the following factors:
From here, identify the activities and situations that could potentially cause virus transmission. Determine who is potentially at risk and how likely it is for employees to become exposed. Company owners are required to remove any such dangers or at the very least, control and manage the risk.
Where to Begin
Before a single person even steps foot back into the office a deep clean is highly recommended and this requires the professionals. A process of fogging is ideal in tackling harmful germs and bacteria such as Coronavirus, Norovirus, MRSA and much more. Couple that with a Touch-Less Disinfection solution and you’re good to go.
Desks
Firstly, take stock of office size and how many staff this space is required to accommodate. Ensure desks are positioned for employees to sit at least two metres apart from one another. If necessary, investigate the use of precautionary screens for an added layer of protection. Use disinfectant wipes and alcohol based cleaners at the start and end of each working day. Encourage your team to get involved and motivated by regularly cleaning themselves.
PCs, Laptops, Screens, Keyboard & Mouse
Keyboards in particular are perfect breeding grounds for germs. It’s important to discuss cleaning processes with your team in the first instance, especially where electronics are concerned. Firstly, unplug everything from the mains. Tip keyboards upside down to get rid of dirt and debris. Wipes containing alcohol or glass cleaner are ideal. For screens, spray a 70% alcohol disinfectant directly onto a lint-free cloth for best results.
Don’t Forget Office Chairs
Fabric chairs may be slightly more difficult to tackle and in this instance we recommend wiping down at the end of the day with antibacterial wipes. For synthetic chairs, aforementioned wipes and sprays work perfectly.
Healthy Hands
Hand washing has been drilled into us since even before the Coronavirus hit. This is one of the most effective ways to help prevent the spread of infection. Encourage this even more now by introducing a regular hand cleaning process. Alcohol gel placed strategically around offices is not only a constant reminder, it helps in reducing risk.
Start with a deep clean, considering this on a regular basis, especially during the current situation. Keep yourself and your team safe by introducing regular safety processes through cleanliness.
Another great clean, we had to move dates and time to suit the changing programme but Kelly and her team remained flexible and professional.
